Autumn Winter 2012/13: The Inspiration
Every collection needs an inspiration. It might be a song, a film, a photograph, a person, a piece of clothing, a period of time. As you might have read, Farrell’s Autumn Winter 2012/13 range was inspired by an event.
Christmas Day 1914 saw one of the most memorable moments in military history; the day warring British and German troops laid down their arms and turned the desolate winter ground of No Man’s Land into a football pitch. Young men who had been firing at each other some hours before called a truce and, after festive sing-songs and exchanging meagre gifts, took part in one of the most famous football matches in history. It was an amazingly human episode amongst all the atrocities of the Great War.
The camaraderie of this extraordinary moment in history chimed with many of Jack Farrell’s morals. The team took it as a starting point for this season and you can see the period military aspects in many of the key pieces of the Autumn Winter 2012/13 collection.
